Why could it be interesting?

You’re probably thinking, earn more money!

Everyone will almost automatically look for money: Euros, Dollars. How much can our team or our organization earn from this? Spoiler alert: implementing the LEAN mindset will not, immediately, save or generate money. Worse, it’s fairly difficult to express it in money, because it is about a mindset, it is about norms and values, about culture. That is not tangible, that is a feeling. But in all cases not an insignificant feeling…


Improve the working climate

The LEAN mindset, should initially make a positive contribution to improving the working climate. It’s about humane behavior. You can often measure the working climate by using for example, satisfaction surveys. Note: satisfaction surveys are only effective when you afterwards, act upon them. If you do satisfactions surveys just to do them and no action follows, then you might as well stop doing them as that is not the right mindset/behavior.

A positive working climate ensures better motivated and more enthusiastic employees (experiencing joy). Trust is an important factor and it will thrive with motivated and enthusiastic employees. They will have the energy to contribute to the team or organization. This positive contribution ensures, on the long run, improved results. Results that are first a cost saving (efficiency, effectiveness), in order to generate more income over time (customers will become more positive). With this income you as a team or organization provide ‘new petrol’ for your vehicle. Implementing humane behavior can open up new opportunities for reinvestment & this will help to survive > see the article What is it, part ‘Survive as an organization’.

Below are some visual examples of what humane behavior can bring within a team or organization. In the top two graphs the K stands for Kaizen and the S stands for Standard. Setting the standard is key.
